Wool T-Shirts Explained: Washing, Shrinkage, and the Truth About Daily Care
Can You Wash a Wool T-Shirt? Will It Shrink? Is It Hard to Care For? An Honest Answer.
Many people are interested in merino wool T-shirts, but still hesitate. “Isn’t the laundry complicated?” “Won’t it shrink?” “Do I have to be extra careful with it?”
Here, we share an honest perspective based on real, everyday use— covering washing, shrinkage, and how easy merino wool actually is to live with.
To start with: washing is surprisingly easy
C-one wool T-shirts are generally washed in a regular home washing machine.
Put it in a laundry net, wash it together with other clothes, reshape it lightly and hang it to dry. Nothing special.
Shrinkage is not zero
To be honest, shrinkage is not zero.
- Length: about 2–3 cm shorter after long-term wear
- Width: little noticeable change
This does not happen all at once. It is a gradual process—small changes that settle over time through repeated washing and wear.
Why double-twisted yarn helps the shape last longer
C-one T-shirts use yarn made from Super 100’s merino wool, spun as 72/2 double-twisted yarn.
Double-twisted yarn means two threads are twisted together, which helps prevent fabric skewing and distortion.
Even after repeated washing, twisting and warping are less likely to occur. This is one reason the shirt keeps its shape over time.
Wool doesn’t need to be washed every time
One of the most important characteristics of wool is that it naturally resists dirt and odor.
Because of its fiber structure, wool does not easily trap body oils, and odor molecules are released more easily into the air.
In practice, wearing it 3–4 times before washing is perfectly reasonable.
Performance proven in the mountains, useful in daily life
In mountaineering, you cannot change clothes every day. Wool has long been chosen because it stays comfortable even after sweating, and remains wearable for several days.
The same qualities apply in everyday life. Washing less means less stress on the garment, which ultimately allows it to last longer.
Fewer washes are also more sustainable
Fewer washes naturally reduce water, detergent, and energy consumption.
Without making a conscious effort, simply using the material as intended leads to a lower environmental impact. That is another quiet advantage of wool.
Just keep these three points in mind
- Use a laundry net
- Avoid tumble drying
- Lightly reshape before drying
*No special detergent or hand-washing is required.
Start by wearing it in everyday life
Wash it. Wear it. Wear it again. Wash it when needed. In that natural cycle, the value of the material becomes clear.
